The design / fabrication facility in Pakistan directly connected to the requirements of steel industry/other industries.
- • Envisioned to be Pakistan’s first and largest completely integrated steel complex located at Port Qasim on an area of 220 acres, with a state of the art cutting edge technology.
- • Phase-1 of the project, the DRI Plant already completed in NSCL. Current replacement cost US$ 700 million.
- • Bringing the most environment friendly DRI technology of Midrex (USA) to Pakistan, internationally recognized as the “Name of the Game”.
- • A pioneering initiative in Pakistan, exploring domestic iron ore through mechanized mining, its beneficiation and pelletization through APCL, an additional FDI in the offing of around US$ 200
- • Reliance 100% on indigenous raw material resources, ultimately going unto the finished steel products, both long & flat.
- • Capable to fully meet with the Strategic needs of the semi-finished steel in Pakistan.
- • A project of Transfer of Technology in all three phases, containing Capex significantly and employment generation for around 5,000 individuals.
- • No conventional LSTK concept, reliance maximum possible/feasible on local value addition.

DRI Plant successfully achieved 100% capacity test run, within 120 days of its operation:
Currently, Gas based DRI is the most environment friendly technology versus the existing conventional steel making through the Blast Furnaces.
The ratio of carbon emissions of the Blast Furnace route of steel making versus DRI / EAF route of steel making is:
2.5 : 1
These days, for being environment friendly, DRI internationally is termed, “NAME OF THE GAME” in steel sector. Rapidly replacing Blast Furnaces with EAFs backed by the DRI Plants.
- • Pakistan is a major importer of steel scrap with an average import quantity of around 4.5 million tons per annum during the last 5 years.
- • The steel scrap import In PKR terms has grown by around 4 times since 2015-2016 as shown in the graph. In 2021-2022, went up to around US$ 2 Billion.
- • Needs no emphasis, DRI is a good substitute of re-meltable scrap.
